Easy Setup
This is a great product. I can now turn on and off my light from anywhere. It was very easy to set up and link it to the app. I have now changed out all of my switches. It also work very well with Alexa. Good quality product for the price. Make sure you turn off the power at the panelboard when hooking up the switch.

Easy to install (prevents incorrect wiring), tapo app has easy functionality
A different brand 3-way smart switch went dead after 3 years of use. I replaced it with this Tapo smart switch. 3 way switch wiring can be difficult (especially if you see the wiring the electrical contractor did in our house!). This switch will actually identify to you if it’s been wired wrong! (which I did) After reversing one set of wires, worked like a charm. Do it your selfers, this is the switch to use.

Superior to Wemo
Bought to replace numerous Wemo Smart Switches, when I found Belkin was ending product support and servers inJan 26. Supposedly switches and plugs installed, in the Apple Home Kit app, will still work post Wemo.Set up was definitely easier, compared to Wemo and the App is much faster to control switches and plugs. The switches and plugs also easily install in Apple Home Kit (I did have to reset two switches to get them to pair) and are Matter capable for future upgrades. The App does not allow Picons at this time, which the Wemo app did. Also the Tapo App will accept previously installed Kasa switches seamlessly. I had used a Kasa dimmer to replace a Wemo version that had failed and couldn’t find a Wemo replacement. (Should have been a clue) I recommend you put the switch ID QR labels on sheet of paper should you need to reset in the future. My only issue is the switches do not support all 3-way wiring configurations. Only two out of six 3-way switches worked when installed in the same wiring set up as the previous Wemo or Standard switches. I had to install them as pole switches to get them to work. You have to tape off the other circuit switches or the light, etc. will not work if inadvertently activated, until turned back off.I found this note online (not noted in instructions):”Wemo 3-way switches are designed to work together in a circuit, allowing for control from multiple locations, while Tapo switches currently do not support this functionality. Tapo switches require a hub for certain automations and do not have the same capabilities as Wemo in a 3-way setup. (community.tp-link.com).Other users had the same issue.Other than the 3-way setup issue. I found the Tapo switches, plugs and App superior. The other benefit is they are much more reasonably priced.

Easy installation and works perfectly
I installed 3 Tapo smart switches. Me: DIY person. Easy to install and super easy to connect and set up on Tapo App.[Appreciated]. I replaced two modern lighting electronic timer switches that have tiny screens and are not easy to program. The Tapo smart switch has an easy menu to program off and on times making it a breeze to control porch and patio lighting. Installation tips: 1. if the switch you are replacing is a 3 way or 4 way unit, the Tapo works perfectly but needs to be installed in the primary switch junction box. You can easily determine this by testing for current in the “line” wire when the switch is turned off. It will retain current when the switch is on or off. If the current stops when the switch is off, then that is not the primary switch in your 3 or 4 way set up. The included instructions explain this as well. Tip 2: verify your existing wire function before removing and installing new Tapo switch. While there are code and industry standards, the previous installer may have deviated. This includes verifying the traveller wires, often one red and one black, but this can vary. Also, the line and load [load goes to light in this case] wires may both be black. A noncontact voltage tester or multimeter can be used to discriminate. Tip 3: take pictures of old switch wiring before removal. This can help if you forget the wire origin. I removed and installed one wire at a time to minimize mix ups. Tip 4: The old wires may have been stripped too long which can expose the conducting copper after installed in the Tapo. This is easily fixed by snipping off any excess copper wire. Tip 5: The Tapo switch includes a single switch plate. If you are installing into a multi- switch junction box, the reused 2 or 3 or 4 switch plate cover will probably not fit totally flush over the top section of the Tapo switch at the screw hole because the switch body plate is a little thicker than a regular switch. I remedied this by shaving off small amount of plastic on the back side of the switch plate cover. ( see picture). This allowed a flat and flush mount onto the wall. I used a box cutter to remove a tiny amount of the plastic. Tip 6: Use of a power screwdriver (not a drill) saves time when removing and installing the two long switch mounting screws. Good luck on your project. Tapo smart switches highly recommended.

Excellent smart switch. Easy to install. Fair cost.
Very easy to install. Reliable. They are really the best smart switch at a fair cost.

Decent Smart Switch But Mixed Results if You Pick the Combined Version
The Tapo Smart Switch works okay — when used in a simple single-pole or basic 3-way setup, it performs decently. It pairs with Matter readily, responds to commands, and integrates with smart-home systems without too much fuss. However — using the “all-in-one” version (single-pole / 3-way / 4-way combined) is where I ran into trouble. It seems like mixing those wiring modes in one unit introduces complexity that makes installation finicky and causes unreliable behavior. In my case the switch sometimes mis-behaved or didn’t stay properly synced, which defeats the purpose of a “smart” setup when you expect consistency. If you need a switch for a straightforward setup and don’t over-complicate the wiring, this works as a basic smart switch. But for more complex wiring or 3-/4-way circuits, this combined model feels like “trying to do too much,” and you may encounter headaches.

Cannot be used as the 4-way switch in a circuit. I had to replace the center switch in a 4-way system (3way – 4way – 3way setup) and this can only replace one if the 3 way switches at the ends. Really disappointing. The information before buying suggested it would have been able to. Hopefully I save someone else the trouble.
