The ECG-7MVR energy saving surge protector operates on a simple master/switched basis. If the TV or PC is on, then peripheral devices are powered on. If the TV or PC is switched off, then the peripheral devices are automatically switched off, thereby reducing power waste.
7 OUTLETS TOTAL—1 Control outlet, 2 Always On outlets and 4 Switched outlets.
ON-OFF THRESHOLD—User adjustable +/- sensitivity screw allows for greater device compatibility.
RIGHT ANGLE FLAT PLUG with 4FT CORD—This less obtrusive plug is ideal for outlets that are behind furniture or other obstacles.
RESET BUTTON— Restores the circuit protector after a power outage or surge.

Solid power strip that works well for active subwoofers in home theater setup
It did exactly what I needed it to do (be an automatic switch for my subwoofer when turning on my AVR and TV. The outlets are spaced well and I didn’t need to adjust the current sensitivity for the controlling outlet. Nice product!

An excellent power switching product that works nicely when you understand it.
This device switches power on and off for devices plugged into the “AUTOMATICALY SWITCHED OUTLETS” based on how much power is being drawn through the “CONTROL OUTLET” while also providing a couple “ALWAYS ON OUTLETS” as a nice convenience. For my unit with it’s sensitivity adjustment turned fully counterclockwise “-” I was able to switch devices on and off with a control load of about 7 Watts minimum and not less. The LED lamp illuminating my pictures, for instance, only uses 3 Watts so it would not be able to act as a master controlling device for anything being switched. Only devices that use 7 Watts or more can be used to control things. I found the limit by hooking up a tunable soldering iron and started turning the dial, finding that threshold. Below 7 Watts and it gets ignored, above and it can turn the switched devices on and off. (15W – 60W is the adjustable range in the specs) The trick is get that threshold solidly between the idle wattage of the control device and it’s active wattage and you are golden. :-)Other users seem to have reported flashing on and off which would be very possible if the sensitivity adjustment wattage is close to the actual power of the controlling device while it is on and if the switched devices were using sufficient power to effect the voltage (and power) of all other devices in that circuit. Control device comes on….Switched devices come on and sag the voltage a bit…power through the control device dips (because of the voltage dips) below the switching threshold and the switched device is turned off. The voltage dip ends and the power going through the control port returns to normal, above the threshold and then the switched devices are turned back on again….over and over again. This “problem” (or amusement 🙂 ) should be manageable by adjusting that sensitivity control…why it’s there in the first place :-)Smart Strip is the first (and only) manufacturer that I discovered to include a user accessible sensitivity adjustment to it’s power-saver power strips. I plan to buy more as need arrives since the features and quality I need seem to be nicely present.

Reliable, unlike some competing products (which I know, because I’ve tried them)
Okay, first my overall pluses and minuses; keep reading for granular detail.+ Reliable+ A lot cheaper than a lot of the competition. Price/performance excellent+ Lots of outlets available for all your stuff (probably primary use, an A/V center)- No tabs to permanently screw-mount this in somewhere. Can always foam-tape it somewhere, but this is kind of cheesy compared to screws.- The tool-controlled outlets don’t power the switched tool (e.g., dust collector) on a bit longer to enable more thorough dust collection. This is not an issue for people who use this in e.g. their a/v center but it is for me.I bought one of these about 18 months ago off of a YouTuber recommendation, and have not regretted it. I use this attached to my miter saw to automatically switch on my shop vac dust collector (which, thanks to my Shop Nation after market dust collection dongles, works MUCH better than the stock option). The big plus here is, like my headline says, this is reliable. I bought a prominent shop-specialty auto switch, twice, which crapped out on me after only a few months. I use my miter saw almost daily and this has performed well enough that I’m ordering another one (for my table saw).I’d like to give this a 5-star, but I have several improves I’d like to see in a future iteration of this product from this fine manufacturer:* Power the switched tools (in my case, the dust collector) for 5-10 seconds after the main tool (e.g., saw) turns off. This enables more thorough dust pick up through the hose.* Add some sort of tab to facilitate screw-mounting this permanently.* Consider different form factors, e.g., a squarish option with 1-2 switched tool outlets. Not all of us want or need as many outlets as this one does.

    It works very well.
Worked straight out of the box. No adjustments needed. My last one (this one replaced it) always required attention and never really worked as intended. This one is GREAT!

    Did not work as described
Great idea, but poorly executed. There are 4 outlets that are supposed to be controlled by the control switch, but you can not plug 4 plugs into that you may want to control. They spaced to close to each other and you can only use 2 of them realistically. Once I got of my plugs in only one turned on when I turn on the control switch item. I turned the sensitivity all the way up and the TV kept turning off and on. Returned item.

Simple and effective for dust collection or sanding.
I have my table saw plugged into it and it works just fine. It switches on my dust collector when I turn on the saw. This is a stop gap for me until I get the actual dust collector system installed but is well worth instead of having to switch them both on or also using the remote.later I will use it for a vacuum cleaner and sanding.

    Hard to find
I was surprised how difficult it was to find a smart strip. Being able to turn off all the accessory boxes when the tv is off was essential to what I was attempting. I could use more outlets spaced for vampire black boxes, but had to settle with using a standard strip piggy backed from this to expand the options. Can not attest to the surge, but the autoswitching works fine.

    Does what it says.
I connected this to my Denon AVR so it could turn off a separate amp. It worked out of the box with no settings changes needed.
